Interview with the DataFlow Group's CEO, Sunil Kumar (Part 1 of 3): Global Migration Trends and PSV
<p>Thanks to the digital economy, global migration is at an all-time high and for many businesses, the ability to hire workers from overseas is critical for their success. However, the increasing migration figures and a higher level of risk within employment fraud go hand-in-hand.</p> <p>As a result, the need for Primary Source Verification (PSV) &#8211; the practice of verifying professional credentials, qualifications and employment details directly from the issuing source &#8211; has also increased with the growing migration numbers. We interview Sunil Kumar, CEO of the DataFlow Group, to gain his expert perspective on the changing landscape of global migration and the growing need for professional verification.</p> <div class="wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile" id="Interview-with-the-DataFlow-Group's-CEO,-Sunil-Kumar-(Part-1-of-3):-Global-Migration-Trends-and-PSV"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="683" height="1024" src="https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-683x1024.jpg" alt="Interview with the DataFlow Group's CEO, Sunil Kumar (Part 1 of 3): Global Migration Trends and PSV" class="wp-image-10149" srcset="https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-200x300.jpg 200w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222-1200x1800.jpg 1200w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/rsz_img_0222.jpg 1365w" sizes="(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content"> <h2>Interview Participants</h2> <p></p> <h3>Sunil Kumar </h3> <p>CEO, The DataFlow Group</p> <h3>Stephanie McKee (SM)</h3> <p>Interviewer </p> <p></p> </div></div> <h3>SM: Do the growing numbers in global migration now mean the verification is a necessity?</h3> <h5>Sunil Kumar:</h5> <p>Global migration has shown continuous growth year-on-year, with more and more people changing countries for work. &nbsp;Of course, with higher numbers, this means higher risk but also greater employment opportunities for qualified professionals.</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="1024" height="812" src="https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor-1024x812.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10151" title="Interview with the DataFlow Group's CEO, Sunil Kumar (Part 1 of 3): Global Migration Trends and PSV" srcset="https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor-1024x812.jpg 1024w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor-300x238.jpg 300w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor-768x609.jpg 768w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor-1200x952.jpg 1200w, https://production-prod-trueprofile-blogassets-origin.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/uploads/2021/03/canva-photo-editor.jpg 1218w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div> <p>As a result, things in the verification industry are moving at a very fast pace. For example, verification used to be just a tick in the box process for HR, with no real importance given to the quality of these verifications. This was just a formality without mitigating the real risk. A hiring manager or recruiter may try to contact a professional body or employer two or three times to verify a candidate, closing the file even if they&#8217;ve had no response from whichever professional body or employer they are trying to reach. The candidate may even still be hired &#8211; that&#8217;s entirely up to the employer.</p> <h3>SM: Can you share any figures around the prevalence of employment fraud as a result of global migration?</h3> <h5>Sunil Kumar:</h5> <p>Employers and regulators are realising the importance of quality verification and it&#8217;s fast becoming the minimum standard. At the DataFlow Group we can leverage wide datasets to inform our reporting, particularly in high-risk professions, which ensures verifications are being carried out in a much more structured way. Everyone wants to make sure the person they are hiring or onboarding has the required qualifications and are verified. As a company, we have seen that there is 4-6% instance of falsified documents during the job application process. This percentage may seem small, but imagine a scenario where a hospital is hiring 100 doctors and 4-6 of these have the incorrect qualifications while they are in contact with patients, performing critical surgeries etc.</p> <h3>SM: Do you think that the risk of falsified professional documents is higher than ever before?</h3> <p><em><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="https://businessblog.trueprofile.io/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Screenshot-2019-01-09-at-10.06.12-AM-1024x485.png" alt="" width="1024" height="485"></em></p> <h5>Sunil Kumar:</h5> <p>If you think about where the world is moving, it&#8217;s moving towards verifying all employees. As globalisation increases every year, there are more options for people to move from one country to another for their careers or better job prospects. So the risk of fraud &nbsp;&#8211; the chance to embellish credentials to secure that much sought after role will always be there and it’s a risk that will keep increasing, driving the requirement for regulation to filter out unqualified candidates.</p> <p>With TrueProfile.io, we&#8217;re not closing the borders, we are the first line of defense to help genuine people move easily for work by putting an enhanced filter on these country borders so that the correct, verified professionals are placed in jobs.</p> <h5>This is the first of three interviews we have conducted with Sunil, so make sure you check back on our blog or <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/trueprofile-io-business-partners" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">follow us on social media</a> for the latest insights from our CEO!</h5>
